Stop being a tease! Either put out completely or just shut your hole. This I said to the clouds that sprayed light rain drops, from the overcast sky this early evening, as I walked down Broadway toward the Seaport. Fortunately, the clouds stopped crying and the sky was dry for the rest of the evening at the opening night of the South Street Seaport’s free summer concert series.
The night was a special treat. Singer/songwriter Sean Lennon and model Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s collaborative work made for some melodic harmonizing as The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Influences ranged from the psychedelia to twee to pop, and yes, The Beatles too. Can you blame him? Guitar solos were in abundance, as well as a handful of jam sessions.
Blood Orange looked very familiar to me. I joked around to a friend that he looked like Dev Hynes of Lightspeed Champion. Turns out it was him. Loved the dance beats and recorded tracks mixed with intricate guitar work. Lots of hooks and melodies from Blood Orange, and am definitely looking forward to seeing him perform in a club.
The summer is back and plenty of shows are happening all over the city. Many are free, some are not. It’s just a matter of which one to attend.
