I headed out to Pier 54 in Manhattan yesterday to check out the Birdhouse MIA to NYC Tour sponsored by Quiksilver. It was a great opportunity to see some demonstrations by skate pros including Sandro Dias, Neal Hendrix, Kevin Staab, Mitchie Brusco, and that one guy. I can’t remember his name. Oh yes…Tony Hawk.
With games and booths set up, the all-ages festivities included a fingerboarding final sponsored by Tech Deck. The young winner went home with a $5000 check, which he’ll mostly likely spend on skate gear.
With the vert ramp set up, Hawk and crew climbed the half pipe to put on a fun and exciting demo for spectators young and old. I have to say, my favorite was Sandro Dias. With his graceful arms extensions, the guy looked like he was dancing in the air. But don’t worry, Hawk came up with some spectacular tricks of his own.
Enjoy the short video. I got caught behind the net, so my video is well…
