Christmas is only 9 days away and my favorite activity during this season is not shopping (ugh…can’t stand the crowds), it’s not the parties (ugh…yes I am that wallflower by the punch bowl), and it’s not playing in the cold, soon to be upon us snowy weather (definitely NOT!).  It’s actually baking.

I loves me a carb-fueled day by a hot 350 degree oven.  Bowls and ingredients spread out on a wide table (or kitchen island..sigh…) ready for creating something unknown and hopefully tasty.  Like a mad scientist I love experimenting with different ingredients, like adding apples to brownie tarts, and this time adding some instant coffee to some gingerbread men cookie dough.  After the baking comes the fun of icing the cookies.  Instead of the traditional smiley face design, I utilized the ever ubiquitous emoticons of happy, questioning, winking, shocked, and a few others symbols.  Call it the 21st century gingerbread man if you’d like.  I call them delish.

The guy on the left is suppose to have an iPod.  Hey!  I’m not Picasso…

Maybe on my next science experiment I’ll try chopped canned olives on my brownie tarts.  Oh yeah, sweet, salty, and well…you never know!
