Hudson River Park’s RiverRocks final show of the summer season concluded last night with a mind blowing set by UK’s Temples, Here We Go Magic, and Spires.
I have been in love with Spires for the past year, and am so glad I got to catch them for free last night. The band reminds me of a 90s band in love with the 60s revivalist movement. They were quite impressive.
Plenty of psychedelia but also beautiful guitar melodies were created last night. I love how Temples’s hauntingly majestic sound is created with harmonies in minor keys. The hair is pretty impressive as well, at times becoming too much to handle with the blowing river breeze as singer/guitarist James Bagshaw proclaimed it was the most hair he’s ever eaten on stage. Whatever you do, do NOT shave off your fro.
Here We Go Magic also part of the lineup, got the folk aspect for the night, and the crowd was quite pleased with them. I think my favorite shots are of bassist Jen Turner and her flowing hair.
Another free show tonight at the South Street Seaport with Black Bananas and Shockwave Riders if you’re interested in seeing some more great bands.
Here are the photos from last night.
