The Beekman Beer Garden at the South Street Seaport is one of the most relaxing outdoor concert series I’ve been too so far. While appreciating views of the Brooklyn Bridge, one can enjoy the warm Sunday afternoon under a roofed area playing foosball or table tennis, relaxing at communal tables enjoying some refreshments, playing with fake sand, or watching a couple of bands in a laid back environment.
Opening up this past Sunday was Brooklyn’s Japanese residents Hard Nips. And yes, they brought a box of hard candy Nips. Oh the hilarity of it all! After the all-female foursome finished their fun and playful set, complete with Asian giggres (yeah that’s right…), the Hard Nips took to the front of the audience to support their buds Cheeseburger. Yet another horrible band name.
Despite these tragic band names, both bands seemed to put on enthusiastic sets that got the over exuberant crowd going. The rapport between audience and performers seemed pretty good as well. It’s not often the term MILF comes up in a band’s banter, but Sunday’s Cheeseburger set was filled with many memorable and lighthearted quips such as the MILF comment.
Below are the shots from both sets:
The Beach Party Series has a handful of shows left and it’s definitely worth checking out. If not for the bands, then at least for the enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere.
Oh yeah, to find the garden, go through the mall at the Seaport. Walk straight through the mall and exit the door on the other side. Take a right and listen for the music. The beer garden is right there.
