CHVRCHES and Dan Croll at Mercury Lounge, NYC, 18 March 2013

The snow (pellets) were flying at warp speed as I trudged on over to the Mercury Lounge tonight for an early show.  On the bill –  CHVRCHES and Dan Croll.  The show was in such high demand, a second show was added and was also Sold Out.

Headlining was Glaswegian electro pop trio, CHVRCHES.  Danceable, with tempos ranging from slow to medium, never moving too fast, (but that’s how it should be, right?) CHVRCHES’s music blended perfectly with Lauren Mayberry’s soft and lilting vocals, vocals almost reminiscent of The Sundays’ Harriet Wheeler.

I guess CHVRCHES have been getting alot of buzz lately, but I like to think it isn’t just the music that makes them so likeable, but also their quirky personalities, funny tales of hands getting slammed by a car door, eyeliner-priority, and the accent.  Oh yeah…the accent.  Aye!  They’ll be at 285 Kent Tuesday night (3/19/13), so make sure you check them out.

Hailing from Liverpool, Dan Croll was a delightful opener.  With a mix of electro pop and a twinge of folk, Croll and the band were definitely my favorite for the night.  He’ll be playing Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn this Wednesday (3/20/13), so do go and check out his set as well.  And if you get the chance, purchase his $5 EP which he was more than happy to remind the audience about, OVER and OVER.  Just joshin’ Dan! 🙂
