The New Mendicants at Mercury Lounge, 1 May 2014, New York City

Some photos from Thursday evening’s early show with Norman Blake and Joe Pernice of The New Mendicants.

The two took turns doing vocals, until nearly 2/3 of the way through when Pernice’s voice started to give out.  I dare say Blake did a proper job. =)

I loved the foot tapping between the two as well.  If you didn’t notice, Blake taps his toes and Pernice his heels.  Just thought I’d point that out.

Pernice shared a song about his son and Blake shared a song about his daughter.  It’s like yin and yang with these two.  How perfect, right?

And the glockenspiel came out. Blake showed us how he had his color coated, which made it look like a child’s toy.  But if you heard the way he played it, you wouldn’t dare say it was.

What else… ah yes, Blake can do an Aussie and Welsh accent.  Grew a beard so he could reside in Canada legally.  Pernice met his wife at the Mercury Lounge by the bar in the back.  And his son calls him Joe, not dad.

Seriously though, these guys were amazing.  The harmonies between them were so beautiful and just the camaraderie between these two made the night so happy, warm, and fuzzy.  Can we say bromance?

If you get the chance to see them, you must:

Philly gets them Friday.  Just hope them Philadelphians don’t boo the New Yorkers like NYC boo’d Philly on Thursday.  HAH!

All I have to say is, if Blake and Pernice return to NYC, I hope they perform ‘What You Do to Me‘.  I foretell a sing-a-long for that one.  =)
