The Libertines at Hyde Park and Pete Doherty Book Signing at Waterstones, 4-5 July 2014, London, UK
The boys in the band re-united for a night at Hyde Park during BST Hyde Park: Barclaycard British Summer Time festival in London, UK. It was great to ‘see’ Pete, Carl, John, and Gary close-out Saturday night’s festivities, even though the crowd became unruly numerous times. The lads seemed much more mature in 2014, scolding the aggressive ones who kept pushing to the front, and the crazies who climbed the towers. They even pulled the parental guilt trip on the crowd informing us they had loads more songs, but threatened to end the show if the mayhem kept up.
Thankfully all ended well with a generous set from the guys, including my favorites Boys in the Band, I Get Along, Campaign of Hate, and Can’t Stand Me Now. Have I ever told you how much I love Can’t Stand Me Now? I absolutely adore the guitar intro. There are just so many beautiful notes, gradually layered one on top of each other, along with the Gary’s drums. I felt like a kid in a musical candy shop. Just listen to it, and you’ll know what I mean. A spoiled kid in a musical candy shop.
The show was hard to get photos of. I was second row deep, but somehow ended up in the middle. Don’t know what happened there. The band also announced that they had 2 shows coming up September 27th and 28th at the Alexandra Palace in London. And now a third date has just been added for Friday the 26th.
Preceding the Hyde Park show the night before was Pete Doherty’s book signing at Waterstones Bookstore for ‘From Albion to Shangri-La‘. 90 minutes late, Doherty made his way to the second floor to sign and pose with fans. He even tossed over a bottle of liquor to a fan in the crowd who did NOT get a book, because it sold out.
Sadly, because the crowd became a little too vociferous for security, all of the spectating fans had to leave the bookstore.
And so ended my day of sitting around waiting for a musician to sign or perform.
Anyways, here are some photos from Saturday’s Libertines performance, and Pete Doherty’s book signing at Waterstones. Enjoy!
