Portrait of a Woman at the Mercury Lounge – 8X10 Acrylic and Oil on Canvas

Here’s my latest painting of a friend. We were at the Mercury Lounge waiting to see a Scottish band. I was hanging out at the stage and when I looked over, I noticed the lighting hitting her face. I ended up taking a few shots of her with my phone. When I looked at them, I said I was going to paint one of them. I loved the dramatic lighting, the sharp contrast and the pose.

The painting is done in acrylic and glazed over with water-mixable oil. I didn’t use any oil medium because I didn’t have any, so I just used water. I’m loving the warm tones. The pose helped also. She didn’t even know I took her photo.

I’m hoping to create more dramatic portraits. I just need to get out and start finding people hanging out at night standing under a single light source. =)
