The 2020 New Colossus Festival kicked off yesterday in New York City. I was able to catch Marble Arch (France), Siv Jakobsen (Norway) and St. Arnaud (Canda) at the the upstairs lounge at Pianos, as well as just the last few songs by UK’s Life in the main showroom.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a show, but I’m glad I was able to muster up the motivation to catch Marble Arch and Life. Siv Jakobsen and St. Arnaud were the cherry on top.
Though I only caught a glimpse, three songs worth, of Hull, UK’s Life I was able to catch a little something and luckily they will be playing again this week on the 13th at the Bowery Ballroom and the 14th at Berlin. The showroom was packed. Singer Mez Sanders-Green reminded me of a young Eddie Argos of Art Brut. Remember Art Brut? The hand gestures would’ve made for some great portraits, had I had my camera out.
Marble Arch was great, despite a minor hiccup in the beginning with sound issues. Singer Yann Le Razavet visually reminded me of a mix between Bradford Cox and Lockett Pundt of Deerhunter. Everybody reminds me of somebody else.
The New Colossus Festival continues til Sunday. As long as I get to see my top 3 pics, I’ll be ok:
- Sahara (Canada)
- Port Juvee (Canada)
- Kings of the Beach (Spain)
There are a lot of great bands from Canada and the UK this year. Woo hoo!
Here are the photos and a video from last night. Enjoy!
